Hey guys, here are 3 macramé ornament ideas. I used a 12” dowel and 3mm macramé cord. For the 1st piece, cut 6 cords at 18”. Fold a cord in half to find the center. Place it over the dowel and bring the ends through the loop created, creating a lark’s head knot. Next, take the 1st cord from the left and bring it over the cord to the right of it. Use this as your holding cord. Take the now left cord and make double half hitch knots going toward the right. To do this, make a number 4 with the left cord over the holding cord. Bring the end through the loop created and do this twice. Repeat this with the rest of the cords until you reach the center. Now, take the 1st cord from the right and bring it over the cord to the left of it. Use this as your holding cord. Take the now right cord and make double half hitch knots going toward the left. To do this, make a backwards 4 with the right cord over the holding cord.

Bring the end through the loop created and do this twice. Repeat this with the rest of the cords until you reach the center. With the 2 middle cords, make a double half hitch knot going toward the right. Then, make another row of this. This time, with the 2 middle cords, make a double half hitch knot going toward the left. I used the length of a post-it to trim the ends. Then, I combed it. For the 2nd piece, cut 5 cords at 21”. Add the 5 cords to the dowel using a lark’s head knot. Use the 5th cord from the left as the holding cord. Bring it over the cord to the right of it and make a double half hitch knot going toward the right.

Continue doing this with the rest of the row. Take the now 5th cord from the left and use that as the holding cord. Bring it over the cord to the left of it and make a double half hitch knot going toward the left. Continue doing this with the rest of the row. Next, ignore the cords at the ends and group the rest of the cords into pairs. There should be 4 pairs. Bring the 3rd pair from the left over the 2nd pair and under the 1st. The 2nd pair should be under the 3rd and over the 4th.

The 4th pair should be under the 2nd pair and over the 1st. Next, take the 1st cord from the left and use that as the holding cord. Make double half hitch knots going toward the right, until you reach the center. Then, take the 1st cord on the right and use that as the holding cord. Make double half hitch knots going toward the left, until you reach the center.

With the 2 middle cords, make a double half hitch knot going toward the left. Then, trim and comb the ends. For the 3rd piece, cut 4 cords at 21” and cut 1 extra cord at 11”. Make a lark’s head knot with 1 of the 21” cords. On the left of it, make a lark’s head knot with another 21” cord. This time, adjust the length so that the right end is 4” longer than the left. Skip the 1st cord on the left. Use the 2nd cord as your holding cord. Bring it over the cord to the right of it and make double half hitch knots going toward the right. When you reach the end of the row, bring the cord over the dowel and to the left side. Crossover the cord, go under the dowel, and through the loop created. On the left, make another lark’s head knot with a 21” cord. Adjust the length so that the right end is 5” longer than the left.

Use the 2nd cord on the left as the holding cord. Bring it over the cord to the right of it and make double half hitch knots going toward the right. When reach the center, you’ll notice a gap. With the 11” cord, make a cow hitch knot, also known as a reverse lark’s head knot. To do this, align the ends to find the center. Place it under the holding cord and bring the ends through the loop created. Continue making double half hitch knots with the rest of the row.

Then, make a lark’s head knot at the end. On the left, make another lark’s head knot with the last 21” cord. Adjust the length so that the right end is 6” longer than the left. Use the 2nd cord on the left as the holding cord. Bring it over the cord to the right of it and make double half hitch knots going toward the right. Make a lark’s head knot at the end. Then, trim and comb the ends. I used cotton twine to hang the pieces. I turned each piece upside down and knotted the ends. Using a tapestry needle, I tucked the ends under a few cords and here’s how they turned out..
