Amazon appears to be down, with over 20,000 reported problems

Based upon over 20,000 reports, Amazon seems experiencing a failure.

According to Downdetector, reports of issues began increasing at 1:41 pm ET today. By 2:26 pm, ET, Downdetector got 18,320 reports of issues with Amazon’s site. The variety of problems peaked at 3:32 pm ET at 20,804.

Since this writing, Amazon hasn’t validated any particular issues. An Amazon assistance account on X stated at 3:02 pm ET today that “some clients might be experiencing concerns” and that Amazon is working “to deal with the problem.”

Per Downdetector, 50 percent of reported issues took place at checkout, while 21 percent of blackout reports originated from mobile app users, and 17 percent of problems indicated issues with Amazon’s item pages.

Ars Technica can verify that some item pages stop working to pack appropriately or at all, which the Amazon homepage in some cases stops working to load.

Update 3/5/2026 7:57 p.m. ET: Since 4:10 p.m. ET, reports of issue began decreasing on Downdetector and were down considerably by 5:55 p.m. ET.
