A spectacular brand-new image recorded by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope reveals the uneven intermediate spiral nebula NGC 4654, whose uncommon shape was shaped by both a close encounter with another galaxy and a headlong plunge through the hot gas of the Virgo Cluster.

NGC 4654 lies roughly 55 million light-years away in the constellation of Virgo.

Recognized IC 3708 or LEDA 42857, this galaxy has a size of about 70,000 light-years.

It was very first found by the German-British astronomer William Herschel on April 12, 1784.

NGC 4654 belongs to the Virgo Cluster, a group of as much as 2,000 galaxies.

“Rather, NGC 4654 was likewise subjected to the gravitational force of the fellow Virgo Cluster galaxy NGC 4639,” they stated.
